Phillip Plein is a fashion designer who’s designs inspire me more than most, his work uses a rock n rock base and then he adds layers and layers of decoration from studs to belts to massive spikes. His work fits into the Maximalist region and is a staple brand for club, dance and party wear or any staple type of pieces for an outfit.

He mentions in a few articles that he seems a lot of designers starting with a brand that consumers love but as they start to come up with new collections, new ideas and start to follow more of the trend, consumers often get lost in the process and don’t understand what the brand is doing as they came for the brands original style and concept not for new trends. He says what ever collection/concept he thinks of, his original style or rock n rock maximalist will never go away and will always be the base of his collections.

Plein’s most recent collection - Spring 2023 Ready to Wear, was his first show back in 4 years, his aim for this collection was to reinvent his brand and come back bigger than ever. He was inspired by heavy metal and the heavy metal scene, with biker jackets, motorbike, lots of leather, kind of a motley crew style. His also focused on tailoring and womenswear silhouettes which was a new focus for the Phillip Plein brand but the notable main inspiration was the heavy metal/rock chick culture and aesthetic.
